Maricopa County Library District serves residents of Maricopa County, Arizona. The Library District serves unincorporated areas plus it partners with cities, towns and school districts to run their libraries.

    How to Get a Card

    A photo ID and proof of current local address are needed to get a library card. There is no charge for Maricopa County residents to get a card. Noncounty residents can get a card for $40 annually, or $5 per month for a computer-use-only card.

    County residents can register for a library card online. This will provide access to our electronic resources through our website. Cards can be picked up at your local branch. Remember to bring a photo ID and proof of address. Register Now.

    Borrowing Materials

    We are happy to loan up to 50 items per card including a maximum of 10 DVDs for:
    Videos & DVDs 7 days
    New books 14 days
    Interlibrary loan 14 days
    All other material 21 days

    If a due date falls on a Library District holiday or when the library is closed, the loan period will be extended to the next business day.

    Renewing Materials
    You can renew at your library, by phone or online.

    Fines and Fees
    NEW FINES AND FEES EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2008 APPEAR IN RED.

    Interlibrary Loan Request Fee
    For books not owned by the Maricopa County Library District
    $5.00 per item (nonrefundable)
       
    Reshelving Fee
    For requests not picked up in 7 days
    $2.00 per item
       
    Overdue Fines  
    Books, cassettes, magazines, CDs $.20/day
    CD ROMs, videos, DVDs $2.00/day
    Interlibrary Loan $2.00/day
       
    Maximum Fines  
    Maximum per item (book, cassette, magazine, CD, DVD, etc.) $12.00 each
       
    Card Replacement Fees  
    Regular card

    Other Charges and Fees  
    Non-resident fee $50.00/year
    Non-resident Computer-use-only card $5.00/mo.
       
    Damaged materials must be paid for at the cost of repair or replacement and any overdue fine, plus a $5.00 Processing Fee.
       
    Lost material must be paid for at replacement cost and any overdue fine, plus a $5.00 Processing Fee. If material is found and returned within 30 days of being paid for, the District will refund the cost of the materials only.
       
    Accumulated unpaid fines and/or fees of $10.00 or more will result in loss of borrowing privileges.
       
    Accumulated unpaid fines/fees of $25.00 or more will be referred for collection. If referred to a collection agency a $15 fee will be applied to your account.
       
    A returned check fee of $25.00 will be assessed, plus any bank charges, and is payable before loan privileges will be extended.
    Personal Computers
    Personal computers are available for customer use in all branch and regional libraries. A library card is required for computer use. Customers can reserve a computer ahead of time through our Computer Reservation System. All computers have standard word processing and other common programs installed. There is a charge per page for printing. Wi-Fi is available to the public in the following branches - Fountain Hills, Southeast Regional, Northwest Regional, North Valley Regional, Perry, Civic Center, Litchfield Park and George Campbell. Wi-Fi also requires a library card.
    Programs and Events
    The library's calendar of events lists all the programs sponsored by the Adult and Youth Service areas at all the District libraries. You may browse programs and events scheduled for this month or search for future events. Some of the events and programs are: story time for children, book discussion groups for Adults, and numerous programs on various topics for all ages. Programs are free but may require registration.
    Special Needs
    Customers who require help locating, using, or interpreting library materials may call the Maricopa County District's Libraries at 602.652.3000 during regular hours of operation to request assistance from Library staff. The library staff is pleased to assist in speeding checkouts or any other reasonable way to make your visit comfortable. Sign language interpretation is available upon advance notice.
